ThermoReserve AB will provide the modular thermal-energy-storage product for Varis FlexHub 01, the company’s first commercial-building reference pilot in Gothenburg. Our responsibility covers stand-alone product verification, preparation for deployment, installation, thermal connection, commissioning support and product-performance learning.
Varis FlexHub 01 uses a real commercial building as the validation environment for a wider energy-flexibility system. The project creates an opportunity to evaluate how modular thermal storage can be connected to an operating building, exchange signals with the wider FlexHub and deliver measurable thermal value under real site conditions.
The project is coordinated by Greenco Tech AB, which leads the R&D coordination and technical-validation pathway. Varis Förvaltning provides the host building, site access, operational context and customer-side learning environment.
From stand-alone testing to building integration
The thermal-storage system is currently undergoing stand-alone testing. This stage is intended to establish stable and measurable product behaviour before site effects are introduced. The planned next milestone is connection to the Varis building by the end of October 2026, subject to successful testing, site readiness and coordinated commissioning.
- VerifyTest charging, retention, heat delivery, controls and safety as a stand-alone unit.
- PrepareConfirm interfaces, connection points, installation requirements and commissioning procedures.
- InstallDeliver and position the thermal-storage product within the agreed site arrangement.
- ConnectIntegrate the thermal, electrical, control and monitoring interfaces with the building.
- MeasureEvaluate integrated operation and use the results for product improvement and replication.
One pilot, distinct responsibilities
Clear responsibility across the host site, project coordination, product delivery and system integration is essential for credible validation. The participants contribute different but complementary capabilities.
Varis Förvaltning AB
Provides the commercial-building environment, operational information, site access and practical customer context for installation and evaluation.
Greenco Tech AB
Coordinates the pilot participants, technical-validation pathway, test objectives and evidence structure, building on the original thermal-storage R&D.
ThermoReserve AB
Provides, verifies, prepares, installs and connects the thermal-storage product, while supporting commissioning, monitoring and product-development learning.

What the thermal-storage pilot is intended to demonstrate
The integrated stage is intended to produce technical and operational evidence for ThermoReserve’s product development. Results will only be reported after connection, commissioning and measurement under defined operating conditions.
- Charging behaviour within defined site constraints
- Temperature stability and thermal retention
- Useful heat delivered through the building interface
- Thermal power and discharge duration
- Control, sensing, safety and operating limits
- Installation, commissioning and service learning
- Interaction with the building and wider FlexHub
- Requirements for improvement and future replication
Creating evidence for repeatable thermal-storage products
For ThermoReserve, the value of the Varis pilot extends beyond one installation. It provides a structured route for learning how a modular thermal-storage product should be specified, prepared, connected, monitored and supported in an operating commercial building.
The resulting evidence will help identify which interfaces can be standardised, which parameters must remain application-specific and what must be improved before similar products are deployed at future commercial-building and industrial sites.
